Every Day Heroes

We don’t need super powers to be a hero to the people around us. Just imagine how nice the world would be if we all tried to be kind and thoughtful to the people we encounter every day.

In this presentation Rukhsana shares two of her most popular picture books (KING FOR A DAY and BIG RED LOLLIPOP) that show kids being every day heroes.

Junior & Intermediate Presentations (ages 9-14)

The Roses in My Carpets

Go on a creative journey behind the scenes of an international award-winning book. Take a virtual tour of the Afghan refugee camp that Rukhsana visited in 1991 that was the inspiration of this moving story.

This presentation includes writing tips and themes of social activism, charity and empathy.

Wanting Mor

Focusing on her international award-winning book of the same title, Rukhsana shares the creative process and the cultural challenges that went into writing this universal story. Contains some references to suicide ideation.

From ESL to Author

How does a poor girl from Pakistan who arrives in Canada without a lick of English overcome her insecurities and become an international award-winning author—in English?

With a library card and a curious attitude!

In this presentation Rukhsana breaks down the steps she took to lift herself out of poverty and make her dreams come true so that students can examine their own untapped potential.

Writing Workshop

Rukhsana engages students in the nuts and bolts of effective communication. Whether it’s essay and persuasive writing or elements of fiction, Rukhsana can get students excited about expressing themselves artistically.
