This powerful prose poem novella is set in 2013 and poignantly describes an Iraqi immigrant’s experience of coming to Canada and trying to fit in. Just after he has finally made some friends and begun to relax, the Boston bombing incident occurs and he feels all eyes on him as if his simply being Muslim makes him somehow responsible. So he pens the titular poem “Not Guilty” which is an accurate representation of how most Muslims feel whenever a ‘terrorist’ attack occurs and they are once again under scrutiny.
